I don't know about you guys, but our family has been pretty lazy lately. Some of it was because of the hurricane - not much to do in a town during hurricane recovery for a few days, even when the storm is mild. And some of it has been because our internet is still out which makes us feel like pioneers on the frontier. No TV, no computers, very little phones (our coverage in our house has always been crap). Even with our phone hot spots, it's been hard so we have pretty much just stopped trying to connect.
Instead, we are playing cards. Lots and lots of gin rummy has been going on. Chris and me. Gracie and me. Chris, me, and Gracie. Chris, me, Gracie, and Bean. Bean and me. If you want to know what we've been doing, we've been playing rummy. And having a great time!
By Saturday afternoon, though, we were ready to try something else. So Chris and I got us tickets to see the UCF game. It was the first time the kids had been to a UCF game before, but they weren't as excited as I thought they would be. actually, the both told me they didn't want to go when I originally came up with the idea on Friday night. But like any good, tired mother who wants her children to have fulfilling life experiences that make them well rounded humans, I said, "TOO BAD! GET YOUR ASS IN THE CAR!"
My sister-in-law, Annie, came with us, which made the day much more fun. Annie is probably one of the most adaptable people I know. Wherever she goes, she's going to have a good time. And she makes the people around her have fun, too. She's up for anything and now that we work together, I am really loving that I get to see her more often.
Another thing that made the game more fun was that Michael's girlfriend, Taylor's, family was also at the game. We met up with them at the Alumni Center to pregame before walking over to the stadium together. Michael and Taylor bounced back and forth from our seats to her seats throughout the game. Those two are inseparable. I joke with Taylor that she is Michael's emotional support animal, but... I'm only half joking, actually... I'm going to buy her a bright yellow vest. 🙂
We ended up having a lot of fun at the game and even made it home to catch the end of the Rangers hockey game, though we could only watch it on Chris's phone because our internet was out and I didn't have service on mine.
I'm a big fan of adventuring. Something to stretch our legs, be around people, and have some fun. As our kids get older, this is getting harder and harder to do. They are outgrowing some things we have always liked to do as a family, but they also just don't want to hang out with Chris and me like they used to. It's natural. Part of growing up that is healthy and normal. But I still force them to hang out with us sometimes. And whether it's a card game on the couch or a football game at the university, one thing is for certain: we are going to have a good time, BECAUSE I SAID SO!
As I'm saying after the hurricane Generac and Frontier should pay us for advertising because I'm trying to sell generators and fiber internet to everyone. LOL. The generator was on purpose, but the fiber internet was a happy accident that we learned as long as we have power, and they have power, we have service.
